Shravya Allumalla

PhD Student

Yunus Centre

Shravya joined the Yunus Centre as a PhD student in October 2023. Her research focuses on addressing health inequalities by measuring public views and public deliberation. Under the joint supervision of Dr Neil McHugh, Professor Rachel Baker, and Dr Ruth Lightbody, Shravya utilises Q-based surveys and deliberative groups to generate recommendations for effective policies to tackle health disparities.

A medical graduate from India with clinical experience as a General Practitioner, Shravya pursued her Master's in Public Health from the University of Aberdeen. Working for the Aberdeenshire Council Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), she researched the impact of Covid-19 on unpaid carers in Aberdeenshire.

With a strong interest in public health and social policies, her previous research focused on leadership challenges faced by female healthcare professionals in the NHS, BAME Women and Health Inequalities, and the impact of community participation in socially disadvantaged people. Shravya pursued a second master's degree in Leadership and Business Management from Robert Gordon University.

Beyond academia, Shravya is actively involved in voluntary work. Having served as the Resource Lead of Chronically Brown, she currently holds the position of Chief Medical Officer at PCOS Buddy, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals affected by Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
