Dr Patrick Ring

Patrick is a qualified solicitor who worked in private practice, and then as an in-house lawyer in the financial services industry, before entering academia.
His academic work spans both the theoretical and practical, looking particularly at pensions, retail financial services and their regulation, and trust in financial services, as well as risk and risk culture.
Patrick has published in a wide range of journals, including Journal of Social Policy, Risk Analysis, Economy and Society and Policy & Politics. His 2020 paper with colleagues on COVID-19 published in the Journal of Risk Research is in the Journal’s top three most-read articles of all time.
Patrick is on the Editorial Board of several finance and accounting journals and has been a subject specialist for a number of professional bodies. He has been a reviewer for the ESRC and various academic journals, as well as an External Examiner for both UK and overseas institutions. He has worked extensively with local and national industry bodies, including funded research for the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA). More recently, he has been a co-investigator on ‘Future Finance’, a UKRI/ESRC funded project.
He is interested in supervising PhD students conducting research in relation to pensions, the regulation of financial services, trust in financial services, and culture in financial services organisations.
