Margaret Masson

Margaret is a generalist HRM&D lecturer whose teaching responsibilities cover people resourcing and talent management, learning and development, personal and professional development and research methods.

She has extensive experience of teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and has worked on several specialised programmes, for example, CMS for the Voluntary Sector and Certificate in Training Practice.

Margaret is also very involved in management report and dissertation supervision for honours, diploma in HRM and MSc in HRM/ IHRM students and has student counselling and advisory roles within the group.

She is responsible for the development of the IPass initiative: a system of integrated student academic and pastoral support including taught sessions, diagnostic writing exercises and a workplace mentoring scheme.

Margaret is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and the Higher Education Academy and holds a PG Diploma in HRM, a PG Diploma in Educational Research and a BA in Public Administration.

In addition, she has been nominated for both the GCU Principal’s Teaching Award and the Students' Association Teaching Excellence Award. She is also a regular reviewer of academic textbooks.

Margaret is particularly interested in pedagogic issues; she has undertaken a secondment to the university's staff development unit and has been selected as a Caledonian Scholar researching and disseminating best practice in learning and teaching.

Past research has examined the implementation of peer review systems within higher education, managing diversity and equal opportunities and performance management in higher education.

She is currently undertaking a PhD examining the impact of mentor support for part-time HRM students.
