John Browne

Composer John Browne brings with him a wealth of experience uniting education with the transformative power of music. Having studied composition at University College Cork, John went on to The Manhattan School of Music in New York.

John has composed choral works for Westminster Abbey, a community cantata performed at the Southbank Centre, a hip-hop opera for the Royal Opera House, and choral arrangements for the band Elbow. He has led many educational and outreach initiatives for The Royal Opera House, English National Opera, Opera North, Welsh National Opera, The British Council and The Southbank Centre, combining opera and theatre work with education.

John visited Rwanda to compose The Mother’s Ring, an original music-theatre piece created alongside survivors of the genocide.

John became a Cultural Fellow in August 2012.
