I hold a Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. After graduation I underwent the one-year compulsory Youth Corps Training in the country, working in different secondary school across two geopolitical regions in the Country where I was involved in peer education training about sexual health and infection prevention and control for teenagers. As a result of my passion in infection control and prevention I undertook a Master’s degree in Public Health from the Glasgow Caledonian University. Since graduating in 2015, I have been involved in different academic and research studies in order to development my research skills for a careers in health research and this had led to obtaining a Masters in Research Methods and a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Microbiology.
I am interested in the fields of infection prevention and control and patient’s safety. I am currently undertaking a PhD in post-discharge surveillance of surgical site infection within Scotland, which aims to validate current SSI surveillance methods and compare these to novel approaches using NHS datasets thus identifying methods for future national surveillance, and directly informing national policy as well as infection prevention and control practice within the NHS.
