Jamie Tarlton holds an Undergraduate Degree in Molecular Genetics from the University of Dundee, where his Honours project studied the spread of the New Zealand flatworm across Scotland. After graduating Jamie worked as a research technician at the University of Dundee in the department of Molecular and Medical Medicine working on projects focussed on type 2 diabetes research through strategies such as pharmacogenetics and in vivo mouse models. This background lead Jamie to later achieve an MSc by Research from the University of Dundee through research that involved metabolically phenotyping a genetic mouse model (ATM+/-) and examining the response to metformin. This interest in type 2 diabetes research has continued by beginning a PhD at GCU in 2017, studying the role of microRNAs in mediating β-cell protection by HDL.
