Ms Irene Kennedy is a Deputy Head of Department/Senior Lecturer and the Department Strategic Lead for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions within the Department of Nursing and Community Health, which sits within the School of Health and Life Sciences. Irene has worked at GCU since 2002.

She previously worked as a Registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse Specialist in Paediatric Cardiac Surgery at NHS Lothian in paediatric intensive care and neonatal nursing before joining Glasgow Caledonian University. Since then, she has taught across undergraduate and postgraduate nursing courses, led the Return to Practice programme and been Strategic Lead in Children’s Nursing.

Irene has a keen interest in widening participation initiatives, delivering transformative education and enhancing the employability of our students and graduates.

Irene has a research interest in education, and child and family health. Currently she supervises, master's, honours and undergraduate students within nursing, public health and students returning to practice. Irene has successfully supervised at master’s level and as an external examiner.
