Dr Ibrahim Beklan Kucukdemiral

Dr Ibrahim Kucukdemiral is a Reader in the Department of Applied Science in the School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment at Glasgow Caledonian University.

He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in the UK, a member of IFAC, and a senior member of IEEE. He is currently the Vice Chair of the IEEE Control Systems Chapter of the UK and Ireland Section and also holds the position of Conference Coordinator Officer for the IEEE UK and Ireland Section.

In addition, he chairs the Industrial Advisory Board for the School's Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Departments and leads the Robotics for the Common Good research group.

Dr Kucukdemiral received his BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Yildiz Technical University (YTU) in 1997, 1999 and 2002 respectively. He worked as a research and teaching assistant at YTU from 1998 to 2004, and subsequently held the positions of assistant professor (2004-2010), associate professor (2010-2015), and full professor (2015-2017) at the same university.

Dr Kucukdemiral's research interests cover a wide range of topics, including robust, optimal and adaptive control systems, robotics, embedded systems, electronic circuits and devices, mechatronics, optimisation, and some automotive applications of control theory.

He is a member of the editorial board of Ocean Engineering and the Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (SCI-E) and serves as module leader for several modules including Industrial Practice, Control Systems I, Control Systems II, Model Predictive Control, and Control and Instrumentation Systems at the African Leadership College, Mauritius.

Over the years, he has taught over 20 different modules at both graduate and undergraduate levels at various universities, including Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul, Glasgow Caledonian University, Turkish Airforce Academy in Istanbul and University of Sharjah in the UAE.

Over the past two decades, Dr Kucukdemiral has been actively involved in numerous research projects in Turkey and the UK, including the EPSRC research project ROBMAN, which focused on the Robust Robotic Manipulation of Physical Structures Underwater.

Dr Kucukdemiral has also supervised the completion of five PhD students and has provided consultancy and review services for various industrial and academic projects including UKRI, EUREKA EUROSTARS and TUBITAK. He is a member of the EPSRC Peer Review College, a member of the Scottish Research Partnership in Engineering leadership group under the theme of Robotics and Autonomous Systems. He is also an external examiner for several universities in England.
