Department of Nursing, Community and Public HealthGordon is the Lead for International in the Department of Nursing, Community and Public Health within the School of Health and Life Sciences at Glasgow Caledonian University. He is also Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing and Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation and holds an appointment as Adjunct Associate Professor at Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia. In 2025, he was awarded Fellowship of the Nursing and Midwifery Faculty of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).
Gordon’s portfolio focuses on international strategic developments, including global partnership building, international student recruitment and support, transnational education initiatives and international short course provision. He is also the lead for student mobility in the School of Health and Life Sciences.
Gordon began his career in clinical research, taking up his first Clinical Research Nurse post in 1994. In 1997, he was appointed Associate Nurse Manager at the Clinical Research Facility in Edinburgh, where he developed a strong interest in the training and professional development of clinical research practitioners. Following his transition into higher education in 2006, he established and led programmes in Clinical Research, including undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in the UK and an MSc in Clinical Research delivered in Singapore.
He is the founder of the Scottish Research Nurse and Co-ordinators Network (SRNCN), established in 2005, and continues to be recognised for his expertise in clinical research workforce development.
Gordon is a member of the Royal College of Nursing’s International Committee and the Research Forum Steering Committee, sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Research in Nursing and serves on the Board of Directors of The Welcoming, an Edinburgh-based charity supporting migrants and refugees.
