Dr George Loumakis

Department of Construction and Built EnvironmentGeorge is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in the School of Science and Engineering (SSE) at Glasgow Caledonian University.
His teaching and research interests include renewable energy, conventional energy sources, energy in buildings, energy sustainability, life cycle analysis, energy systems and the environment, quantitative research methods as well as public engagement and science communication.
He teaches at various levels, ranging from undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD, DBA and Professional Doctorate (ProfDoc) students, and his background is in physics, renewable energy technology with a PhD in solar energy. He is the senior Postgraduate Research Tutor for the school, the department's student disciplinary officer, and has led the MSc in Environmental Management and the Power and Renewable Energy Systems group. He currently supervises five PhD and one DBA student, and has successfully supervised five PhDs to completion.
He's the school's representative at the University Senate, member of the student conduct committee and an Accelerate Programme reviewer. He is a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and is involved in various public outreach events such as the Glasgow Science Festival, SmartSTEM, Primary Engineer, Café Scientifique and Explorathon, is also a science communicator with the STEM Ambassador Programme and an e-mentor for high school pupils.
