Project title: Peripatetic worker engagement in Health and Safety
The aim of this study is to contribute to the body of existing knowledge in regard to Worker Engagement in the construction industry. The specific focus here is on peripatetic workers aligned to the construction industry, in this case professional painting operatives. No specific research on this population could be found and the goal of the study is to test if the methodologies and techniques for encouraging worker engagement on traditional construction sites can be applied to painting operatives and if they are likely to be successful or otherwise. Qualitative data will be collected from semi structured interviews with the target workforce and it is intended to utilise appropriate software to assist with the subsequent analysis.
An objective of the study is to evaluate and assess the views and opinions of a select group of Painting Operatives with regards to their desire and ability to influence workplace health and safety planning relevant to their work. The findings will be used to inform policy development for worker engagement within the author’s organisation and will also be made available to health and safety professionals and other interested bodies to enable broader dissemination of knowledge and improve the management of safety in organisations.
