Catherine is a cell biologist with research interests in dermatology, focusing on wound healing and diabetes, examining the role of gap junctions and fibrosis in failures of wound repair. She is a member of the Molecular Mechanisms of Diabetes Research Group.

Catherine undertook her PhD in Reproductive Science and Medicine at Imperial College London (granted 2003), after which she was a Serono Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, moving to GCU in 2006 as Postdoctoral Research Fellow. In 2014 Catherine became a Lecturer in the Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences. As well as her research, Catherine teaches undergraduate and postgraduate cell biology, supervises PhD and MRes students, and is Tissue Donor Co-ordinator of the GCU Skin Research Tissue Bank.
