Brian’s teaching experience and passions revolve heavily around the sociology of work, employment relations and critical approaches to HRM. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, as well as a member of the CIPD.
Brian’s work experience, prior to academia, was centred around HRM, retail management and a variety of roles in the hospitality sector.
His research interests focus on work precarity, employee misbehaviour, employee resistance and service sector realities of employment. Within Brian's research, autoethnography is utilised to understand emotions and feelings linked with work precarity.
Brian is also working alongside colleagues, around the world, as part of the Global Hospitality Research Alliance, shedding a critical light on the realities facing frontline service workers.
