Ben’s career spans journalism and higher education, including Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, where he was principal lecturer in journalism and programme director responsible for Learning & Teaching and Quality in the Department of Media. His main areas of teaching are in journalism writing and the political and social impacts on newsroom environments.
Previously he worked as a journalist in New York, London and Scotland for The Scotsman, Mirror Group and Express Newspapers, then at the Associated Press news agency and his work regularly appeared in magazines and newspapers such as Newsweek and the Washington Post.
His areas of research interest include international journalism and newsroom practices.
