Dr Antony Weir

Dr Tony Weir is Head of Research Operations in RKES: Research & Knowledge Exchange Services and first joined Glasgow Caledonian University in 2025. Tony is responsible for leading the Team supporting research funding, research assessment, impact, ethics, and targeted activities enabling Research Centres.

Since completing a PhD on Squirrels and Forest Ecology, he has worked in several higher education institutions as well as in the voluntary and museums sectors. His experience spans research strategy, policy, funding, assessment, and organisational development. He has contributed to institutional policy development in areas including research culture, ethics, open research, and assessment.

He served as an Adviser to the UK REF Team for REF2021 and as Deputy Convener and later Convener of the Scottish REF Managers' Group. He also contributed to the professionalisation of research management through leadership roles within the Association of Research Managers and Administrators (ARMA) and other national networks.
