Angus started his career in the late 90s as a freelance print journalist for The Big Issue In Scotland, Metro, and Sunday Herald before editing Cog, a Glasgow-based arts and culture magazine.
He moved into broadcasting as a researcher on Words With Wark and Frontline Scotland, before becoming an assistant producer for Panorama.
He researched Michael Crick’s best-selling biography of Sir Alex Ferguson and has worked as a consultant on documentaries about Sir Alex and Kenny Dalglish, as well as scripting a drama/documentary about the fall of the Ceaușescu regime for the BBC’s Days That Shook The World. He was also a script reader for BBC Scotland TV Drama.
In 2014, he was the series producer for BBC Scotland’s The Referendum Debate.
In 2017, Angus was a producer on Health: Truth or Scare for BBC Current Affairs and consumer affairs programme Supershoppers for Channel 4.
He has more recently worked as a producer for BBC Scotland covering the results of the 2017, 2019 and 2024 UK General Elections as well as the 2026 Scottish elections.
His research mainly focuses on TV production, and he has presented papers on workforce rationalisation at MeCCSA 2024, Media Industries Conference 2025 and the International Labour Process Conference in 2026. He is also currently supervising a PhD on TV production and workforce in the UK’s nations and regions.
He currently leads modules on TV Production and Feature Writing and Magazine Journalism.
Angus previously also taught at the University of West of Scotland and the University of Glasgow in journalism and TV production.
