Angela is a member of the Department of Social Sciences and teaches equality, human rights, and public policy.  She is also Deputy Director of the WISE Centre for Economic Justice.  Angela has a number of external appointments, including Chair of the Scottish Government's Equality and Budgets Advisory Group, and other advisory groups on social security and economic recovery.  She is a commissioner on the Commission on a Gender Equal Economy, and a Trustee of the UK Women's Budget Group and the Scottish Women’s Budget Group.  She also jointly co-ordinates the European Gender Budgeting Network.

Recent research projects include a 3-year evaluation of participatory budgeting in Scotland, advising the Welsh Government on gender budgeting through a project for the Wales Centre for Public Policy, and the ongoing #YourBudgetYourRights project with the Scottish Human Rights Commission.  She is also a member of Gendersense, a Horizon 2020 project on gender budgeting led by the University of Iceland.  She was a member of the Budget Review Group revising the Scottish Budget process in 2017 and the Commission on Local Tax Reform 2015-2016.  Angela is a member of the newly formed SG Social Renewal Advisory Board, and a non-party member of the SNP Commission on Fairness and Social Justice.
