Dr Andrew Logan is a Senior Lecturer in Vision Sciences.
Andrew graduated from GCU with a BSc(Hons) in Optometry in 2010. Following a period in practice, Andrew returned to GCU to undertake a PhD in visual perception for which he was awarded the George Giles postgraduate research prize by the College of Optometrists. In parallel with working towards his PhD, Andrew completed his Independent Prescribing qualification.
Andrew was appointed to the post of Lecturer in Optometry at the University of Bradford in 2015. He was awarded a Postgraduate Certificate (with distinction) in Higher Education Practice by the same institution in 2017, and became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
In 2019, Andrew returned to GCU to take up the post of Lecturer in Vision Sciences. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in Vision Sciences in 2022.
Andrew’s undergraduate teaching is focussed upon ocular disease and therapeutics. At a postgraduate level, he provides lectures for higher qualification programmes, particularly in glaucoma and independent prescribing.
In his research lab, Andrew combines behavioural methods with clinical techniques to investigate aspects of visual perception. He has recently led an investigation, funded by the College of Optometrists, into the effects of both healthy ageing and ocular disease on face perception.
Andrew is a registrant member of the General Optical Council’s Education Committee.
