Professor Alastair Robertson is Director of the Graduate School at Glasgow Caledonian University with responsibility for providing strategic academic leadership for the full research student journey, delivery of researcher development and enhancing the quality of the researcher experience.

He previously served as Pro Vice Chancellor for Learning and Teaching at GCU and has 30 years’ experience working in the HE sector, originally as an academic researcher in Inorganic Chemistry, before spending the last 20 years in quality enhancement with extensive leadership experience at both institutional and national levels through various roles. He is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA) and Chair of the Scottish Higher Education Enhancement Committee (SHEEC). His experience extends to a number of areas influencing the student learning experience, particularly, academic leadership, strategic change, technology enhanced learning, learning spaces, student engagement and national HE policy development.

His latest research is on evidencing so-called intangible assets: factors that contribute to student success in higher education that is not easily quantifiable through metric proxies such as student satisfaction, educational outcomes and graduate salaries.
