This month, we’re shining the spotlight on GCU MSc Advanced Paramedic Practice student Nathan Thomson, Founder of Clinical Audit Compass, a digital platform designed to support healthcare professionals in making clinical practice visible, defensible and ready for when it matters.

Clinical Audit Compass is built to reflect real-world clinical practice, enabling users to log clinical activity, track interventions, presentations, decision-making, and professional development over time. Available on iOS and Android.

Trying to maintain a clinical portfolio across different roles led Nathan to notice a clear gap for a simple, structured solution to bring everything together in one place. Clinical Audit Compass was developed to address this gap.

“It has grown from a personal frustration into a wider solution aimed at supporting the multidisciplinary healthcare workforce.”

Progressing from initial concept to working application, including securing early funding and beginning real-world testing, has been one of Nathan’s biggest successes.

“Seeing engagement from clinicians across different professions has been particularly encouraging and has validated the need for the platform.”

Balancing clinical work and developing the platform to meet the needs of a wide range of users, without becoming overly complex, has been a key challenge for Nathan. These challenges, however, have helped shape the direction of the platform and strengthen its long-term potential.

“Building something that is both simple to use and clinically meaningful has required careful planning and continuous refinement.”

Nathan joined the GCU Entrepreneurial Hub to access guidance, support, and a network of individuals developing innovative ideas. He recognises that the guidance, structure and connections the Hub provides can make a significant difference when starting out.

“The most valuable aspects have been structured support around business development, funding, and strategy, alongside being part of a community that encourages innovation. The funding support has also helped progress the development of Clinical Audit Compass from concept to a working application.”
