Usman joined the Yunus centre in November 2016 as a PhD student. His research titled Green Microfinance focuses on the environmental performance of microfinance institutions and seeks to understand their potential in enabling the poorest people to become more resilient to the impact of climate change. The research is supervised by Olga Biosca, Rachel Baker and Neil Mchugh.

Prior to joining the Yunus centre, Usman gained a masters in Social Business and Microfinance from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2015. His 10 years working experience in the Nigerian microfinance industry has been a strong motivation for his research.
