His principal research interests include poverty, social innovation and social policy in Scotland. He has also undertaken research on various aspects of financial exclusion and public service reform, and collaborated with Yunus Centre colleagues on several research projects, including the critique of Social Impact Bonds and co-authoring Social Innovation and Social Policy: Theory, Policy-Making and Practice (Policy Press, 2017) with Professor Simone Baglioni). He is Research Theme Leader for Social Innovation in GCU and is leadingthe development of the Scottish Poverty and Inequality Research Unit with Professor John McKendrick.
He is a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, a member of the Economic and Social Research Council peer review college, a referee for over a dozen
international academic journals and on the editorial board of Journal of Poverty and Social Justice. He isalso a member of the Child Poverty Action Group’s Policy and Scottish Committees.
