GCU’s governing body, the University Court, has welcomed a new lay governor.

Jane Wilson’s appointment was confirmed by Court when it met in April and Jane will take up her position with immediate effect.

A distinguished alumna of the University, Jane has 25 years’ experience in marketing, communications and public affairs, and now runs her own consultancy. Prior to this she was a Managing Director at communications agency ENGINE mhp, Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and Director of Corporate Communications at Global Radio.

Jane is a visiting lecturer at the University of Kingston Business School, an Honorary Fellow and member of the Diversity and Inclusion Network at the CIPR, and a Member of the Company of Communicators. She is also Vice Chair of the Scottish Youth Film Foundation and serves on the Advisory Board of clean energy consultancy Olwg. Jane graduated from GCU in 1995 with a BA (Hons) in Mass Media and Communication.

The Court is the University’s governing body, responsible for approving the University’s overall strategic direction and exercising general oversight of its performance and development. As a lay governor, Jane joins other members in overseeing the University’s activities and providing strategic input. Court membership is drawn from the University’s external and internal communities, and includes lay members, academic, professional and support services staff, Students’ Association officers, Trade Union representatives and the Principal.

Commenting on her appointment, Rob Woodward, Chair of Court, said: “This is a significant appointment and we are delighted to welcome such a talented and committed individual to the University Court. We all look forward to working closely with Jane and benefiting from her professional experience.”

Jane Wilson said: “As a GCU graduate, it is an honour to return as Governor, joining a Court that is motivated by the University’s commitment to educational excellence and to the Common Good. I look forward to playing my part in achieving GCU’s vision of being recognised as a world-leading University for social innovation and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals.
