Glasgow Caledonian University has moved up eight places in the Guardian University Guide, to be ranked 69th out of 121 universities in the UK.

The University has seen a year-on-year increase in its ranking since 2019 (ranked 96th), improving by 27 places through to 2022.

At a subject level, Social Work remains in the UK top five, judged to be third out of 74 universities ranked, while a number of other subjects improved in the rankings, including Psychology, which rose 33 places.

Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Pamela Gillies CBE FRSE said: “We are very pleased that once again our University has been recognised in this prestigious guide with the highest increase of places in the Scottish sector.

“I always stress that our commitment as the University for the Common Good is about delivering social innovation with a focus on contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals issued by the United Nations.  While our focus is therefore not upon the league tables, nevertheless our position in the Guardian University Guide demonstrates that we can deliver academic and research excellence, as well as wider social benefit.  It is a testament to the efforts of the whole university community of staff and students at GCU.”

Student satisfaction, continuation, entry tariff, the ratio of students to staff, graduate employment and spend per student are some of the measures used.

The guide is aimed specifically at students who are trying to choose a course starting in 2022.
