Glasgow Caledonian University's leading climate-change academic is to provide evidence to a Scottish Government-formed assembly on how the country can best meet its zero carbon targets.

Professor Tahseen Jafry, Director of GCU's Centre for Climate Justice, will form part of an evidence group at Scotland's Climate Assembly – a select group who are broadly representative of the Scottish population.

These Assembly members will take on the task of learning about, discussing and making recommendations on how to best tackle climate change. In 2021, the Assembly will report to the Scottish Parliament on the outcomes of their deliberations.

The evidence group will oversee the Assembly, presenting diverse views on climate change to allow members to make important and credible decisions. The group will ensure that Assembly content is balanced, accurate and comprehensive. The Assembly will meet over six weekends between November 7 and March 2021.

Professor Jafry also took part in the UK Assembly earlier this year. She will also be speaking to the Welsh Trade Union Congress about the challenges and opportunities of the transition to net-zero in Wales and how social dialogue with unions and workers at a national policy and workplace level can help to create positive action.
