GCNYC’s Fair Fashion Center continues to provide the business case for the fashion industry to be profitable as well as sustainable in its latest collaboration.

A workshop for brands and retailers on Preferred Fiber was hosted by The GCNYC Fair Fashion Center, in collaboration with subject-matter experts from Textile Exchange on February 21.

To advance the incorporation of fibers that are ecologically and socially better than their conventional counterparts, the workshop reviewed preferred options for fashion’s key raw materials that are found globally – rooted in fields, forests and extracted from the ground.

Attendees joined from a range of brands and retailers, spanning different roles and departments including design, production, and corporate responsibility.

The collaborative and informative exchange of thoughts and ideas between brands and subject-matter experts established a clear understanding of the preferred fiber landscape, including science-based data, standards and case studies.  Additionally guests learned how to build a preferred fiber strategy, identify opportunities to begin and advance said strategis, and key sourcing partners engaged in preferred fibers by region.

The working sessions culminated in a networking-based reception, wherein members of the community were invited to reflect on the day, cultivate their new inter-industry relationships, and collaborate to create the greatest collective impact For the Common Good.

The GCNYC Fair Fashion Center has partnered with Textile Exchange to support brands in overcoming supply chain barriers to engage with preferred fibers, assisting with the building of strategies and links to value chain partners.

Textile Exchange is a global non-profit that works closely with members to drive industry transformation in preferred fibers, integrity and standards for responsible supply networks.

Committed to the intersection of profitability and sustainability, the GCNYC Fair Fashion Center is facilitating the incorporation of sustainable practices into fashion by proving the business case.
