A Glasgow Caledonian University professor is to form part of an advisory group to the Chief Medical Officer in Scotland.

Professor Claudia Estcourt, Professor of Sexual Health and HIV, has been appointed to the role of Genitourinary Medicine Specialist Adviser to Chief Medical Officer.

The role is a three year posting and Professor Estcourt will provide specialist advice on matters relating to sexual health and HIV.

The group will feature around 50 other medical experts who will meet for formal gatherings twice a year. They will also be on call to the Chief Medical Officer at any point, able to offer advice and support on their speciality.

Professor Estcourt said: “It is great to be asked to personally contribute to NHS Scotland as part of a network of high-performing medical professionals.

“It was a competitive process and I am delighted to have been selected.

“As the only medical professor at GCU it is also a good opportunity to highlight the university’s increasing role in health education and research.”
