What’s involved?
Supporting the Glasgow Life/Schools Active Rugby programme with pitch-side first aid allows students to develop their practice skills within a specialised field. Students attend training events and matches with a view to providing first-responder duties during and immediately after the event and referring on for assessment and management where appropriate.
How will participating in this activity/opportunity allow students to make a positive difference to the communities that we serve?
This activity is mainly aimed at supporting school children who are involved in the Glasgow Life/Schools Active Rugby programme. However, by developing transferable skills and confidence in this (sometimes stressful) environment, students can also make a positive impact at external sports clubs within the local community in Glasgow and beyond. The early assessment and management of sports injury can not only prevent injuries deteriorating but can be life-saving. Prompt referral-on to the appropriate practitioner is encouraged.
What are the benefits of taking part in this activity/opportunity for participating students?
Students who get involved in working with sports teams gain confidence in their knowledge and skills, and gain valuable exposure to real-life situations where their basic first aid, problem solving and decision-making can make a real impact. Students gain clinical, organisationl and communication skills, and the opportunity to develop a network of friends and colleagues working in this field.
