What’s involved?
The Caledonian Club is GCU’s multi-award winning widening participation and community engagement initiative. We work with children and young people, from 3–18 years, in communities in Glasgow and London, delivering a range of project-based activity in school and on campus. The Caledonian Club employs GCU students as mentors to take part in these activities. Our student mentors are the heart and soul of the Club, supporting all activities alongside university staff.
How will participating in this activity/opportunity allow students to make a positive difference to the communities that we serve?
We work with young people, from nursery age through all school stages and their families, to raise life-long learning aspirations and equip members with key life skills. We achieve this by offering targeted nursery, primary and secondary schools a linked set of activities delivered by staff and student mentors from GCU.
What are the benefits of taking part in this activity/opportunity for participating students?
The Caledonian Club employs GCU students as mentors to take part in the activities. Not only does this give students the opportunity to earn money in a flexible part-time job, it also allows them to fulfil a role as an active citizen, develop skills to improve future employment prospects and meet and work with other GCU students from a variety of disciplines. Mentors are also eligible to join GCU Student Leaders Programme.
