Nozipho January-Bardill

Ambassador Nozipho January-Bardill, Chair of the UN Global Compact, South Africa, was awarded a Doctor of Laws in recognition of her work to eliminate racial discrimination and to support the rights of women, social justice and governance.

A former anti-apartheid activist in exile, on her return to South Africa, Nozipho played a key role in democratising and transforming the new nation’s policies, cultures and practices. She works in human rights and anti-racism movements around the world as well as campaigning for gender and social justice in South Africa.

To get an award outside of my own country is really what the honour is all about, that shows me the work I have been doing is known beyond the borders of my country. I am truly grateful for that.
