Muzoon Almellehan

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Muzoon Almellehan - one of the BBC’s 100 Influential and Inspirational Women - received an honorary Doctor of Laws in recognition of her advocacy for girls’ education and humanitarian causes.

Muzoon began working with UNICEF in one of a series of refugee camps she lived in after fleeing the conflict in Syria with her family. In 2017, she was appointed its youngest Goodwill Ambassador - and the first person who holds refugee status to be appointed - for her campaigning work for the rights of children, particularly girls, to an education.

I am receiving this award on behalf of millions of children, who cannot represent themselves. It makes me so proud to be their voice.
