Fiona McKenzie

Co-founder and CEO of charity Centrestage Fiona McKenzie received a Doctor of Letters in recognition of her work to support young people through the arts and community engagement.

While teaching music in HMP Kilmarnock, Fiona realised that many prisoners had been excluded from education or been part of the care system. The Centrestage vision “to create energetic, inclusive communities, with the arts at the heart”, was born. Centrestage now operates across Ayrshire and is bringing all of its activities together at a new site that will help regenerate Kilmarnock. Fiona has been awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship by Rotary International.

GCU is the best example of inclusive integrated educational excellence and, here, ideas and dreams are made real for social benefit.
