A Deputy Director in the Scottish Government, Yvonne Strachan led its work to champion equality, human rights and the third sector.
Yvonne, who received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws, has dedicated her career to equality and social justice, tackling discrimination and prejudice and amplifying the voice and participation of people facing inequality and disadvantage. She has been instrumental in shaping Scotland’s approach to equality and positioning the country as a global leader in the support of social enterprise.
Yvonne led work on the first governmental public campaign on race equality – One Scotland – and on legislation to promote equality.
She was awarded an OBE in 1997 for services to industrial relations and equal opportunities and a CBE in 2015 for services to equality.
