Phil Differ

Comedy writer, producer and director Phil Differ received an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters for his outstanding contribution to television scriptwriting over the past four decades and his commitment to GCU students.

Phil has written and co-produced iconic shows such as Naked Video, City Lights, Rab C Nesbitt, Scotch and Wry, Only an Excuse and Still Game, working with the cream of Scottish comedy talent including Rikki Fulton, Gregor Fisher, Elaine C. Smith, Craig Ferguson, and Robbie Coltrane.

He also performs as a stand-up comedian and writes for the theatre; his latest play – Double Feature – ran at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2017.

A GCU alumnus – he even met his wife Ann in class here – Phil is passionate about the University and is a supporter and inspiration to students of the MATV Fiction Writing programme.
