Donations to the Glasgow Caledonian University Foundation reached an astonishing £7million this year thanks to the generous support of our donors and friends, who like us, believe that education really can transform lives.
Highlights of the year included our partnership renewal with Santander Universities. Our new three-year agreement signifies a phenomenal £1million of support for students at GCU. As well as scholarships and awards, students will benefit from a unique internship and placement programme and our budding entrepreneurs will be able to apply for seed funding loans to help get their business ideas off the ground.
At GCU London our donors continued the entrepreneurial theme. As part of our partnership with retailTRUST and Hammerson, we were able to provide our first seed funding award of £30,000 to an up-and-coming fashion entrepreneur. The seed funding awards build on the retailTRUST’s established scholarship programme.
Old firm legends John Hartson and Walter Smith were among a host of celebrities who joined our founding donor Sir Alex Ferguson for a charity golf day to help raise nearly £80,000 that will enable us to provide a number of scholarships and awards to ensure talented students, regardless of their background, can access a variety of educational opportunities. Guests were able to hear about the impact of the awards from recent beneficiaries at the Gala Dinner.
We were delighted to receive new support during 2017, including a donation from ScottishPower Foundation. The gift will enable us to increase the number of students studying STEM-related Advanced Highers at our award-winning Advanced Higher Hub. Meanwhile, our School of Health and Life Sciences received a funding boost from the Robert Barr Foundation to help enhance cutting-edge facilities in our Vision Centre.
