Our Commitments

Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) declared a climate emergency and committed to carbon neutrality by 2050. The date for carbon neutrality has since been brought forward to 2040. This new commitment builds on and adds a new focus on the University’s long-standing commitment, as the University for the Common Good, to incorporate the principles of sustainable development into every aspect of its operations.

The University operates a well-established environmental management system, certified ISO14001 /EcoCampus Platinum that provides a robust, externally-verified framework for delivering these commitments.

GCU’s Environmental Policy sets out its priority areas and throughout these pages you will find examples of practical initiatives the University is implementing to enhance its environmental commitments and realise its commitment to become carbon neutral.
