Summary of Content

T his module operates an overall 50% pass rate. The main themes contained within this module: Measurement and Quantification of construction work using a range of Measurement Methods Estimating and pricing of construction works based upon a variety of information Computer-based systems will be examined for both themes of the module

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:1. Apply theoretical learning to practical tasks involving the principles of measurement and good practice (A1, A2, & B1),2. Critically assess and apply formalized codes of measurement practice in the production of bills of quantities and tender documentation (A3, B3 & C4).3. Effectively use standard and where possible, dedicated software packages in the production of bills of quantities, estimates and tender documentation (A4, B2, B3, B4, & C4).4. Have an appreciation of the various estimating methods and identify when they can be used and why (A4, A5, & B4).5. Understand input resources required to build-up rates and evaluate rates based on identified resources (A5, B5, & B6).6. Identify and evaluate the impact of various forms of contract, procurement strategies and market conditions on pricing strategy (A4, B5, C2, & C5).

Teaching / Learning Strategy

A web-based form of delivery will be used throughout the module. All students will use the web for all of their teaching and learning materials. Full-time and part-time students will be able to participate in seminars that will facilitate discussion. Web-based activities will be used to encourage discussion and interaction. Use will be made of formative objective on-line quizzes to aid students understanding. Module assessment will be through 100% Continuous Assessment. This will be done using two assignments, on-line tests.
