Summary of Content

Preparatory workshops will focus on the process, the scope and nature of the thesis, the supervisory relationship and favourable ethical opinion. The research process will then be applied in an independent project, with assistance from a supervisor. Progress presentations may be offered by some cognate areas.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:1. Explore and apply relevant intellectual approaches and practical skills, including those acquired in the taught components, to the chosen topic;2. Develop critically, strategically and in depth a topic or area of interest arising from the work done within the taught postgraduate framework and in the student's area of academic or professional interest;3. Develop further the research skills demonstrating an ability to set the project in its wider context, to sustain argument and to present conclusions;4. Present and be able to defend their rationale, approach or methodology, outcomes and conclusions.
