Summary of Content

This content of this module will be written in a broad and flexible format in order to address on-going developments in diagnostic imaging which effects service provision and practitioner roles. The student will also be involved in identifying any area of practice they wish to develop.


Historical, present and future considerations specific to Diagnostic Radiography that include: -360b7 The impact of government and professional body policy on professional practice and service developments -360b7 The effect of technological development on service provision b7 The developing role of the radiographer within the acute, community and private sectors b7 Local, national and global perspectives -360b7 Extended scope of practice/role development b7 Advancing technology (e.g. molecular imaging) -360

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module the student should be able to:1. Assess the impact of technological developments, government and professional body policy on professional practice. 2. Discuss the role of the diagnostic radiographer from a past, present and future perspective3. Evaluate local, national and global developments in radiographer professional practice.4. Consolidate image interpretation skills for first post competence relating to preliminary clinical evaluation for trauma.5. Identify and accurately describe pathological appearances on non-trauma images from a range of modalities.6. Demonstrate knowledge of theories of current scopes of practice e.g. Intravenous injection theory of Contrast Media7. Justify the need for professional development planning, continuing professional development and lifelong learning.8. Demonstrate a capacity for independent learning and reflection.

Teaching / Learning Strategy

This module will blend a number of different learning and teaching methods to include: -360b7 Independent study of pre lecture reading and narrated lectures b7 Keynote lectures. b7 Seminar talks from practitioners b7 E-learning via GCU virtual learning environment. Student led seminars
