Summary of Content

This 4-week placement will allow the students to demonstrate high levels of clinical reasoning and evaluation which will be integrated into the management of patients/clients with increasingly complex conditions. This will be achieved through the application and synthesis of knowledge and skills acquired from current learning and previous academic and clinical studies applied to an area of their choosing. The student will consider the client centered approach to the management of patients and take responsibility for their learning by setting personal and professional learning outcomes for each placement. These outcomes will be in addition to the learning outcomes specified in the module descriptor. The 4-week practice education placement will enable students to apply, consolidate and extend knowledge and skills in the preceding modules. This placement allows students to explore, organize, and administrate a clinical placement in an area of their choosing in terms of specialty and or/ the geographical location of the placement.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module the student should be able to:-1. Demonstrate a width and depth of knowledge and understanding of clinical sciences in the assessment and management of clients.2. Conduct justified, effective client examinations within a reasonable timescale.3. Analyse client data in order to predict outcomes.4. Record client data in an accurate, concise and logical manner.5. Formulate shared physiotherapy short and long term objectives using a client centred approach in a variety of contexts.6. Demonstrate competence in the application of therapeutic skills7. Discuss management interventions and justify the selected interventions using available evidence.8. Evaluate the outcomes of physiotherapeutic intervention.9. Communicate effectively with clients and key individuals10. Demonstrate understanding of health and safety issues in relation to practice and operate in accordance with relevant legislation.11. Demonstrate an understanding of equality and diversity and select appropriate strategies to address the impact of issues on clients outcomes..12. Teaching / Learning Strategy

The key strategies adopted are those of experiential and shared learning. The student, working with clinicians, will formulate, implement, analyse and discuss management strategies for patients/ clients with a variety of conditions. A process of guided reflection is adopted to encourage the student to evaluate their learning and clinical reasoning and to engender reflective writing in a clinical portfolio. The clinical portfolio will be utilized to provide a forum for discussion between students and the visiting lecturer. This will facilitate the development of independent learning skills.
