Pre-Requisite Knowledge

Higher Grade, Spanish Language Preliminary Module or equivalent.

Summary of Content

A consolidation of the learner's understanding of the language. Improvement of communication skills in the language. Introduction to themes of current interest in the countries where the language is spoken and appropriate vocabulary of these themes. Improvement of learner's ability to analyse information in the target language.

Syllabus

A consolidation and development of the learner's understanding of the language. Improvement of the learner's abilities in communication skills in and understanding of the foreign language. Introduction to themes of contemporary interest in the countries in question and familiarisation with vocabulary relevant to these themes. Extension of the learner's ability to analyse information in the target language.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this Module the student should be able to:- complete brief written assignments in the language with a sufficiently high level of grammatical and lexical accuracy to convey essential information about a range of general and specific topics;- understand the language over this range of topics when spoken at near normal speed;- discuss this range of topics with reasonable fluency;- analyse essential information from written texts on a range of general and specific topics;- summarise and discuss this information with reasonable accuracy both in written and spoken modes.

Teaching / Learning Strategy

Teaching is theme based and classroom activities, which are student-centred, are a mixture of individual, pair and group work. Teaching is a mixture of classroom, workshop and laboratory sessions. Practical classes are conducted in the target language.

Oral and written communication skills, co-operation/teamwork/understanding of cultural differences/tolerance.
