Summary of Content

The aim of this module is to enable the student to develop knowledge and skills to critically analyse music media texts and culture. Students will become familiar with a range of concepts such as philosophical and psychological approaches to understanding music, sub-cultural identities, gender and performance in music, as well as the work of specific theorists such as Barthes, Benjamin, Small and Adorno.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module, the student should be able to:" Demonstrate a broad knowledge of the historical and cultural contexts of music media." Critically evaluate and convey a range of academic approaches to music culture." Analyse music use and effect in a range of music media texts.
