Pre-Requisite Knowledge

Level 2 modules in relevant EBE full time programmes. This module will be undertaken by both full-time and part-time students.

Summary of Content

Work experience within an environment appropriate to the students' programme to develop the students' social and interpersonal skills, comparative understanding of work procedures, the ability to question concepts and to relate the theoretical and technological aspects of the programme with the managerial, technical or professional practice aspects of the construction, property and environmental sectors of the built and natural environment.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:1. Acquire applicatory skills and develop personal and social skills, thereby increasing self-awareness of ability, aptitude and character. 2. Learn work disciplines and routines. Develop self-confidence and maturity. Understand team working, personal relationships and authority. 3. Question industrial, professional and academic concepts and procedures. 4. Improve analytical problem solving techniques under supervision in a working environment. Explore possible research areas with a view to developing future dissertation subjects. 5. Clarify career progression decisions and objectives by being more aware of the available careers. 6. Sample different types of work and exchange views with colleagues and peer groups. Develop the ability to reflect on the learning experience and self-analyse strengths and weaknesses. 7. Achieve preliminary professional experience requirements for corporate membership of relevant professional experience requirements for corporate membership of relevant professional institutions or their faculties/divisions. Teaching / Learning Strategy

Introductory lectures/tutorials on the format of the placement will have been provided for full-time students in the module C&S Preparation for Placement. (10 credits) This will have covered employers, expectations, interview procedures, behaviour, means of assessment, tutor visits and professional institution requirements (where appropriate). At the discretion of programme leaders, site visits and site interviews of student and employer's representative by individual mentors may take place. Production of set assignments and records of achievement for PD (Professional Development). Part-time students who undertake this module in Year 3 will already be in full-time employment as a as a pre-requisite for entry onto the programme.
