Summary of Content

Participation in the INTERACT multidisciplinary design team competition with architecture and structural engineering students from other HE institutions Design Appraisal: early cost advice, pre-tender cost control, forecasting, cost modelling, life cycle costing.


Cost modelling: cost forecasting practice and the methods of assessing price level. Databases and forecasting models: their background and use in cost control. The cost control function within the design process. Life cycle costing: cost comparison and sensitivity to variables.

Teaching / Learning Strategy

The INTERACT design team competition for architecture, quantity surveying, and engineering students; simulation professional experience; team surgeries and presentations. Introductory lectures provide basic supporting concepts which will be complimented by tutorials and 'drop-in' workshops. Students will have access to the University and School libraries and resource facilities.
