Summary of Content

This module provides the student with the opportunity to extend their depth and breadth of understanding in a particular area of dental hygiene/therapy. Subjects chosen will seek to respond to current and future needs of the profession.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this module, the student should successfully be able to:-- Be familiar with an evidence-based approach to treatment.- Be familiar with critical evaluation and critical appraisal of published work.- Be competent in appraising the role of audit in a relevant aspect of hygiene/therapy practice- Be competent at debating and discussing issues related to lifelong learning and continuing professional development

Teaching / Learning Strategy

The concepts of this module will be introduced by keynote lectures pertinent to the elective strategy. These will underpin and be supported by small group work and student led seminars. Each student will have support and guidance from a named supervisor. Opportunities will be provided to enable students to share the knowledge gained in their elective project.

Indicative Reading

Much of the indicative reading of this module will be dependant on which elective topic is selected by the student. Specific guidance on the elective indicative reading will be provided for the student by elective supervisors but will include where appropriate current practice guidelines and National Service Frameworks
