Syllabus

Develop the communication skills required for professional practice Develop practical dispensing skills. These include the fit, supply and adjustment of spectacle including single vision and bifocal lenses, and the repair of spectacles. Develop problem solving skills, in a clinical practice setting

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module, students should be able to:Utilize a wide range of professional communication skills, as required in optical practice. Fully understand the requirements and dispensing skills appropriate for clinical practice.Practise in a caring, empathic and professional manner with simple dispensing cases .Demonstrate a wide range of General Optical Council Competencies for Dispensing OpticiansDemonstrate a full understanding of the clinical context of the areas of visual science relevant to Ophthalmic Dispensing in a practical, clinical context.Apply appropriate knowledge of the legislative regulatory framework within which Ophthalmic Dispensing is practised within the UK

Teaching / Learning Strategy

-2 This module is delivered in practice under supervision of a qualified Ophthalmic Dispensing Optician or Optometrist. Practical experience will be used to document and reflect upon clinical cases as part of their requirements for professional registration. Learning is achieved through experience and feedback from supervisors in practice and module tutors in GCU.
