Summary of Content

This module builds on the core skills of working across radio, TV and online platforms and allows students to progress to developing more advanced skills in multimedia content creation. Lectures will introduce advanced production theories and techniques, and encourage critical analysis of multimedia products. Practical workshops will promote creative production across all platforms and enhance presentation skills.


Advanced audio recording techniques using portable digital recorders (Marantzes/Tascams & iPhones) to capture interviews, sound effects, wildtrack and music Advanced operation of radio studio using Synergy, Burli and Adobe Audition Writing presenter/reporter links for audio and video packages Creative camera work Post-production: multi-track audio editing to produce creative, layered packages Post-production: editing creative video packages across multiple tracks, using title tools and a range of visual effects Presentation skills for radio and TV, including studio presentation and Pieces-to-Camera (PTCs) Mobile Media: recording and editing audio and video on iPhone kits and using a range of social media apps -719

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module, the student should be able to: 1.Use a few advanced audio and video recording techniques, using industry standard equipment, including radio and TV studios 2.Demonstrate detailed knowledge of writing skills across radio, TV & online platforms 3.Use multi-track audio editing 4.Use Avid software for advanced video editing and creative packaging 5.Display confidence in studio presentation and on camera location presentation 5.Demonstrate competence in the use of mobile media

Teaching / Learning Strategy

A programme of lectures each trimester will highlight key theories of multimedia production and build on the students' understanding of industry practice. Tutor-led practical workshops are designed to enhance and further develop core skills of writing, recording, editing and communicating with radio, TV and online audiences. They will also allow students to continue to reflect critically on an expanding range of media consumed. A series of seminars to smaller groups of students on a rotating basis enables students to further develop their own presentation skills and grow in self-confidence communicating with others. 8 x 1 hour lectures on interview techniques, writing for broadcast and online, audio and video editing, camerawork and online production 24 x 2 hour workshops in audio, video and online writing and production, mobile media and presentation In addition to taught classes, the team of tutors will use interactive multimedia content on GCU Learn including links to a wide range of media to encourage diversity of consumption and critical reflection. GSBS will continue to use the advancement of GCU Learn as a blended learning tool through its teaching and learning as well as through engagement with students. GSBS will ensure that all modules are GCU Learn enabled and with the support of the Learning Technologists at the cutting edge of development of online materials. Academic staff and the Learning Technologists will continue to work together to develop and operate all modules on GCULearn to ensure student support and information sharing. Students are provided with formative and summative feedback via a variety of mechanisms. Feedback on coursework is provided within 3 working weeks of submission.
