M2N206859 Personal and Professional Development and Work Based Learning. The learner must be employed in a full-time, part-time or voluntary capacity. This module is intended for students undertaking the BSc Railway Operations Management

Summary of Content

This work based learning project module has been designed to integrate the knowledge and skills that the students have developed through their participation on the course thus far. That means demonstrating knowledge and understanding of at least 3 modules, which comprise level 8 of the programme. The areas students decide to cover will be negotiated with their tutor(s). On completion of this project students should be able to demonstrate skills for the gathering, evaluation, analysis and presentation of information, ideas, concepts and quantitative and/or qualitative data, drawing on a wide range of current sources. Where appropriate this will include the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT). This module can only be undertaken after completion of other modules at this level. after completion of other modules at this level.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:1. Demonstrate a broad knowledge and understanding of the scope, main areas and boundaries of railway operations2. Demonstrate a critical understanding of a few core theories, principles and concepts 3. Generate an appropriate project management plan setting out the aims, objectives, scope and methods within stipulated timescales. 4. Complete a project report based on module materials and wider reading, within the stipulated timescales and deliver a presentation, using appropriate techniques, setting out its key ideas and findings.

Teaching / Learning Strategy

This module is designed to be relevant to the workplace. Since the module requires the student to undertake independent study and research the learning materials will be identified by the student. In addition to support through Blackbboard, tutorial telephone and email support will be available and if possible, face to face tutorial support. Formative assessment will be used not only to encourage knowledge of the subject area, but also to help develop transferable skills. Summative assessments will provide evidence of the learning achieved throughout the module. Summative assessments are compulsory. An overall mark of 40% must be achieved in the module.
