Summary of Content

This Course gives exposure to the students to enhance their practical skills through the knowledge and understanding they have undergone through the core modules like telecom applications and electronic communication.


The teaching syllabus will cover the following areas: -360 - Double sideband Amplitude Modulation System - Double sideband suppressed carrier Amplitude Modulation System - Single sideband Amplitude Modulation System - Frequency Modulation system - Signal Sampling and Reconstruction - Time Division Multiplexing - Pulse Code Modulation and Demodulation - Half-wave dipole antenna pattern - PAL decoder television standard

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the student should be able to: 1. Design and setup signal sampling circuit and demonstrate reconstruction of signals. (AM1, AM4)2. Analyse time-division multiplexed PAM signals and demonstrate recovery of such signals through experimental setup (AM1, AM4).3. Analyse reflection coefficient and SWR through experimental setup.(AM1, AM4)4. Analyse the frequency components in DSBAM, DSBSCAM and SSB using a spectrum analyser and determine power savings in Single Sideband (SSB) AM signal (AM1,AM4) 5. Analyse M-QAM for DVB-T using Simulink modelling (AM1,AM4,AM6)6. Evaluate the process of digital transmission and reception using PCM. (AM1,AM4)7. Critically evaluate the radiation pattern for half-wave dipole antenna (AM1,AM4,AM6)8. Construct and test a Double Sideband Full Carrier Amplitude Modulation (DSBAM) and DSBAM demodulation signals (AM1,AM4,AM6)9. Construct , test and trouble shoot FM generation using reactance modulator and FM demodulation using Foster Seeley discriminator(AM1,AM4)

Teaching / Learning Strategy

The main teaching method will be based on laboratory exercises used to relate theoretical concepts to practical experience.
