Summary of Content

The module will enable participants to recognise the value of research evidence to health care practice. Students will be able to identify useful and relevant sources of evidence and use effective strategies to access evidence. Through teaching and learning strategies students will begin to develop skills to appraise the quality of different types of evidence and strategies for the implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) will be discussed.-2

On successful completion of this module the student should be able to:1. Discuss the application of evidence-based practice in health and social care 2. Identify and classify different types of questions that arise from practice3. Describe approaches to research and identify methods appropriate to the investigation of different types of questions 4. Explain the key stages of the research process5. Using a guide, begin to develop skills to systematically analyse individual pieces of research evidence.6. Identify and interpret basic qualitative and quantitative analyses used in research
